I love building things as much as growing things. Trying to grow the same old way is great if you strictly grow for food. I’m some where in the middle. I don’t mind going to the super market but if I can grow it I can store it! Green pepper, hot peppers, tomatoes, and cucumbers that’s what I’m talking about.
If I had more land I would grow most of my vegetables but I live in an average subdivision. I have room for a 20 X 20 garden plus growing tomatoes along the south side on my house to save space. I try to get two planting of most of my vegetables. This is where the projects come in, Cold frames, hydroponics, grow lights, raised beds, greenhouse, and other weird ideas.
Results
Cold frame: The cold frame works great. I would say the only thing that need to be worked on is an automatic opener.
Cheap homemade seed starter: Using my seed starter lets me start seeds all summer long. Its hands free with a timer and keeping the light on starts seedling off on the right step.
Ideas
Gardening
This fall I was thinking of making a raised bed with poly pipe layed at the bottom. In the spring I would running warm water threw the pipe to wark the soil. Also think of a solar water heater!
Growing
Next year I plan to grow more peppers. I need to triple the plants to keep up with demand. Peppers during the off season sre prices are out of this world.
Future Plans
Growing vegetables
I'm working on a two to three year plan. By this time next year I want to be looking for a piece of property. Three to five acres is what were looking for. I would love to have a huge garden.
